The Windfree Foundation was established in 2018 by Windfree Solar Energy Co. as an independent foundation. Our mission is to improve energy efficiency, advance the development and use of renewable energy resources and to focus on the energy needs and education of our students and community.

Our foundation has provided financial support for clean energy investments in Illinois through a variety of programs. Since 2018, we've awarded grants to Illinois non-profit organizations, schools, municipalities, and other local and state government agencies.

We've provided technological solutions to local schools, working with educators to develop curriculum and put solar into the hands and minds of the next generation of energy users. We are committed to transforming how we think about power and making owning solar a possibility for all.

Our Mission

Part of our mission is to educate current and future generations. We've introduced educational solar courses, otherwise known as "Solabrations."

Granting solar solutions

We lend our experience and expertise to public schools and non-profit organizations to develop solar energy strategies.

Local partnerships

The Windfree Foundation thrives on combining forces with various local organizations to fulfill the needs of low income and environmental justice communities.

Public schools

We work with schools to develop STEM oriented approaches to solar issues. Building 1kW systems to use
as platforms for math, science, and technology exploration.

We've had the honor of working with Habitat For Humanity to lend energy solutions to families in need.
